Assistantships

Requirements

• Must be accepted into a degree seeking program (G7, G8 - not G6 or G9).
• Must be a graduate-level student registered full time (at least 9 credits fall & spring, 6 credits over the summer with at least one credit each session).
• Other preferred qualifications may be set by assistantship supervisors.

Benefits

• Helps you fund your education while gaining experience in your field or with other aspects of the university.
• Students who hold an assistantship will have out-of-state tuition costs waived (will pay in-state tuition rate).
• Graduate assistants qualify for state employee benefits.

Classifications

• GAT: Graduate Assistant, Teaching
• GANT: Graduate Assistant, Non-Teaching
• GAR: Graduate Assistant, Research

Students interested in an assistantship should contact the Program Chair, Program Coordinator or their graduate committee chair.

Scholarships

Financial Aid

The Texas A&M University Department of Student Financial Aid helps students obtain scholarships, grants, part-time employment, and loans. Students interested in financial aid are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Many financial aid programs have early deadlines, some as early as the January prior to fall admission.

Scholarships are available through the Texas Water Resources Institute and students internships are available through the U.S. Geological Survey.
